Anders Preschool Quilt: The Plan

Anders goes to preschool this Fall. He’s the last of the grandkids to go…I already told Kalissa I might cry when he goes. I’m not a big crier when the kiddos go to school. I cried when Kelli, my oldest, left…and that’s it. No one else. Anders might get a tear or two.

But…before he can go, I need a quilt from him. Kalissa’s kids have the only school that requires a preschool blanket so I’ve only made preschool quilts for them. Yes, they could have something store-bought, but I’ve made them quilts so the tradition must stand.

This was Carver’s…

I needed extra fabric for the backing so I did this.. You can read about Carver’s quilt HERE.

This was Gannon’s…

He was in love with tractors at the time, so he made it easy because I bought a panel. I love Gannon’s reaction when he saw it. You can read more about Gannon’s quilt HERE.

Well, now it’s time for Anders. What does Anders love? All things army. Army men, tanks, guns…he’s into it all. What can’t kids have at school? Guns. UGH.

I tried to find an army panel. I couldn’t find anything that didn’t include a weapon. I did find this cute fabric…

I wondered if that might work??? I showed Rick and his comment; there are still guns. True. Darn.

I ended up deciding I would go with camouflage fabric.

I ended up stopping at two quilt shops on Saturday. I didn’t find camouflage fabric. Well, I did and didn’t. I found this…

It’s a Minky-type fabric that will solve my problems. I will use this for the backing…I’ll use army colors for the top, sewing a patchwork-style top like Carver’s.

I’ll use Lori Holt’s Spelling Bee book and make the letters for Ander’s name. You can find the book HERE.

I absolutely love this book…I’ve used it several times. It’s a great one for a reference library for your sewing room. I have a John Deere quilt in the makes that I’ll be using it again for that.

So…now I FINALLY have a plan. Now I need to work the plan. School is only a month away, so I need to get cracking.

  1. I am sure whatever you do it will be cute. I really like that fabric with the army men on it because they look like what Anders plays with. Well, at least you can use army colors.

  2. Just a suggestion (and you probably already did this), but Googling “military fabric” brings up a bunch of quilt type fabrics that don’t have guns but still depict army related themes. Flags, emblems, dog tags, etc.
