When quilt finishers finish quilts it is up to the finisher to find a good cause to donate the quilts to. I have a treat for you today. I got an email from Ray filled with pictures showing where a few of the quilts that he’s finished have gone.
Ray writes:
“Saint Hilary’s Episcopal Church is where I donate a lot of quilts for them to donate as a part of their community outreach program. Yesterday (a few weeks ago now) they had several quilts that they sold at their Airing of the Quilts to generate funds to serve some of the projects that needed cash more than quilts. It was a beautiful day here and the quilts blowing in the breeze was awesome.”
Ray explained that the quilts are hung out on clotheslines. Each quilt has… a tag with information about the quilt on it.
I think this is so fun to see all of the quilts hanging out ready to find new owners.
Ray didn’t explain to me if the quilts are bought by bid or if the quilts all have a price on them.
Isn’t it such a great way to display the quilts that are part of the fundraiser. I bet Ray must have been pretty proud to see all of his work displayed in one place.
A HUGE shout out to all the wonderful quilt top makers. Without all of your donations this event would not have nearly as successful.
Whether you donated a top, sent postage money, or sent backing fabric, you were a part of this! Thank you!!

The next time they do this, I’ll have to tell Ray to let me know so I can tell you all about it. Maybe if you live in the area you could stop by.
This quilt was very popular. Someone didn’t get it and wanted one so Ray is going to make one.
He’s a man of many talents. The quilt below was also a popular quilt…the twister quilt in the middle.
I remember seeing many of these as many were donated by the Cresco Lady Quilters.
I so enjoyed this virtual quilt show.
It was nice that people could walk around and see the backs of the quilts too.

Ray wasn’t sure of the final tally that the quilts the sold brought in. All I know is that he was pleased with the money that the “Airing of the Quilts” brought in. I’m pleased too. It makes my heart happy to see so many people helped. I seriously never dreamed the community quilt project would grow like it has. Thanks to the many of you who cheer the project on! It means so much to me and many others.

Absolutely beautiful quilts!!! My heart is over joyed that this community and organization was able to raise some much needed funds from the love of others through the love of their quilt making. Ray and Jo, I know you are so very proud! I send my love to you from South Carolina!! What a great showing and so many, any beautiful quilts!! I am sure the shoppers just loved be able view so many in such a unique way. It reminds of a quilt show that was done for many years in Colorado, except those quilts weren’t for sale. Thanks to all who helped make these quilts and quilted them! Great work.

What a great thing to see all these beautiful quilts that Ray did such a beautiful job on! I’m glad they helped raised needed funds. I recognized the one in the second picture as the one I pieced together after you, Jo, connected me with Evelyn in California, who sent me that beautiful flannel kit with the deep, rich colors. Ray did such a beautiful job quilting and finishing it. The “village” involved in making all of these is so talented and their efforts appreciated by so many!

Yes, it is called “Diamonds in the Rough”, and it was a quilt kit by All Through the Night, Bonnie Sullivan designer and owner, at http://www.allthroughthenight.net. I don’t know if it’s still available, but you could check the site and/or contact them directly. I will say it was a dream to sew! I had not worked with flannel before and was cautious, but the fabric in the kit was excellent quality and had a suede-like quality to it. Good luck!

there might be a copyright issue if Jo makes a design for the quilt. If you look at it closely, you can see the blocks or the units that made up the quilt.

The pattern is called Streak of Lightning and is from a book titled, “More Nickel Quilts” by Pat Speth. There are a lot of super patterns in the book.

Hi Kim, Did you make the twister quilt? If so, the lady that bought it liked it so much that she has asked me to make two more for her. I have it on my To Do list but have not started on it yet. Got to practice on some scraps first. Never made a twister before.
This is a wonderful idea. I have been to one other outdoor quilt show and it is amazing how more lovely they look out in the bright daylight with a breeze blowing them about. Makes them dance. Thanks to you and Ray for sharing these lovelies with us here.
