After 24 Years…We have a Tree Skirt!

I am SO happy!  I FINALLY after 24 years, made a tree skirt.  No…It wasn’t in time for Christmas 2010, but it is ready for Christmas 2011.

Here’s more good news….I am participating in Patchwork Times, UFO Challenge.  These block were listed as project number 8.  The blocks were part of the Buck a Block program one of the local quilt shops is hosting.  I didn’t purchase the finishing kit and knew I wasn’t planning on making the quilt as the shop suggested…so I knew I needed to come up with something for the blocks.  A few days ago when I was listing all my projects that needed to be finished, I was thinking that I need a Christmas tree skirt….the two ideas, blocks and skirt, just meshed and I am SO glad they did.

The pattern that this is model after is a free internet pattern, Stars All Around Tree Skirt.  It’s designed by Darlene Zimmerman.  Here’s a link to the pattern.  I needed to add fabric to the center star to make it big enough to fit the size of my blocks.  Besides that, I followed the pattern.  It was a quick project that I am so glad to have finished.

The fabric is French General Rouenneries for Moda.  It is a great line for Christmas projects.

hmmm…now I am going to have to find a project to replace project number 8 for my UFO challenge.  No fear…I totally cleaned my sewing room today and there are PLENTY more projects that need attention.

If anyone wants the buck a block patterns for the stars, drop me a note and I’ll send them your way.  I have another finished project to show you tomorrow….I LOVE days off!

  1. I’ve never had a tree skirt! But made one for my daughter this year and it was a grand accomplishment. Suppose I should take a picture of it before it gets put away! Love yours. Appreciate the link. I saved it to my favorite places to consider later. Maybe I’ll have a tree skirt for 2011 afterall!! Happy New Year.~karen

  2. Hi there! Love your tree skirt. I completed one a few months ago. However, and this is a big however, I couldn’t bare to cut into it to actually make it a tree skirt. So there it sits, on a table, unable to fulfill it’s treeskirt destiny. :) I wonder if it is too late?

  3. Contests on a finish and for being so far ahead for Christmas! Last year I finished a Christmas project in May and I was happy to be ahead for the holidays ;)
