You might remember some time ago I posted a recipe for lemon bars. Â They were super easy-I just mixed a box of angel food cake (NOT following the directions on the box) and a can of lemon pie filling. Â I put the mix in a greased bar pan and I baked the for 20-25 minutes at 350.
The bars are so quick!!
Yesterday I decided to try a little experiment. Â What if I used chocolate pie filling??
That’s what I did…I took
1 angel food cake mix (ignore the directions on the box)
1 can chocolate pie filling
Mix it together. Â Spread on a greased bar pan. Â Bake 20-25 minutes.
For frosting I took
1/2 stick butter softened
1- 8 oz cream cheese softened
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 c cocoa
enough powdered sugar to make a frosting to the consistency
Mix all that together and spread on the cooled bars.
The results….GREAT! Â It tastes a like chocolate angel food cake with awesome frosting.
They were so good I am now wondering about conducting a few more experiments with this basic bar recipe.
it also works well with canned pumpkin (not the pie filling) and pumpkin pie spice and can be done in a bunt pan i orignally saw it done with crushed pinapple so easy and good not as sweet did add a little water as my pumpkin was dry
