A Sewing Day with Two of my Girls

Wednesday evening our two oldest girls, Kelli and Kayla, joined me on a trip to my favorite quilt shop, Country Threads.  They had a HUGE sale and we had a blast.  I have shop pictures and sale pictures I’ll show you in the upcoming days….right now I want to tell you what we did Thursday…..  We sewed….

Kayla was busy working on machine quilting a baby quilt she made from vintage sheets….

Kayla

Kayla loves vintage sheets and she makes some really great looking project with them.  This is actually the second quilt she machine quilted.

Kelli was busy cutting out projects.  She’s going with me to see Bonnie Hunter from Quiltville next week so she cut out her Pineapple Quilt.  Then she cut out a throw quilt.

Kelli

She is using an old Moda line, Hushabye….

Kayla had to leave early but Kelli stayed on and started in on her 2″ scrap bucket making random 4 patches for Miss Rosies quilt, Ginger Bell.

Sewing random patches was hard for her at first….she would turn her head and grab two fabrics without looking.

I was busy sewing neutral string piece blocks….I need 168…so far all sewn just today, I have 133!!  WHOOP….WHOOP!

It’s a big mess but I don’t care a drop.  For the last weeks I have been sewing for Moda Bake Shop and for AccuQuilt.  I am SO ready to be sewing something just for me….something that I am going to keep….something I completely and TOTALLY LOVE.  I am making Jamestown Landing.  It’s Bonnie’s newest pattern out.  You can find it in the Australian Homespun Magazine, Blue Issue.  I got my issue at Erica’s.   Here’s a picture of the quilt….

I will tell you more about our busy shopping and sewing days soon…promise.  Right now I am off two sew some more string blocks….

  1. I just got my Australian Homespun issue from Erica’s the other day. Love that Jamestown Landing…..it’s the only reason I put out the money for the magazine. It should make a serious dent in my blues. Not sure when I’ll start it….still working on RRCB, and will be for a while yet :) :)

  2. Sounds like you had so much fun. I’m two borders shy of finishing Hawk’s Nest. Hope to have it done this weekend. I’m a little less than 2 sides away from finishing my RRCB. I just ordered the magazine from Erica’s–thanks to you (wink). Bonnie says the pattern will be in her next book–you made it so I couldn’t wait! I can use a little clearing out of my white strips…I tend to go more towards off whites and creams. Are you going to join the Cheddar Challenge? Sandi

  3. I think it’s wonderful that your daughters like to quilt, it must be fun to do things together , like going to the quilt store and having sewing days. I have only one daughter and so far she has not shown much interest in quilting. She did get a sewing machine awhile back to use for mending and has done a few crafty projects, so maybe someday the quilt bug will bite. I love that pattern of Bonnie’s also, will have to watch for the magazine. Looking forward to seeing what you bought at the sale.
