A post from Kelli–
A few months back, Jason called me and told me that we needed to talk when he got home. Of course he would be home late and didn’t want to talk about it too much on the phone. I surely wasn’t too excited about that and wasn’t going to be able to sleep after that so I stayed up until he got home. When he finally did–around 11:30 pm–he informed me that him and his brother might have the chance to purchase another farm of about 300 acres. The happiest part for me is that there is a house on this farm which means that I am moving!
Would you like to know more about the house? So would I! Right now, all I know is that there is a 2 car attached garage, a large kitchen, a dining room that we are going to use as a living/dining room, and a living room that will be my sewing room (that was Jason’s idea). There is also a large laundry room/mud room on the main floor. Apparently the basement is in decent shape and Jason plans to add a shower down there for him. Upstairs, there are 3 or 4 bedrooms. I have heard different numbers from different people. The reason that I don’t know? I haven’t seen the inside of the house.
Yes, that is correct. I’m moving in a little over a month and I have no idea what the house looks like inside! Around here, with the farming culture, buying the land is the important part and the house is just an added bonus! The boys are more impressed with the three sheds to raise steers and the machine shed that is partially heated.
As crazy as it sounds, I know that overall it is a good move. Farmland isn’t commonly sold in such large amounts. It is also very close (probably 2 miles) from the main farm. It is also an improvement to the home that we are living in now because there is a two car attached garage and less than 4 doorways and 4 appliances that need to go in the kitchen, but the best part is yet to come.
A while ago, Jason and I were talking about houses and what features we valued in a home. I told him that I always want to have a space on the main floor of the house to sew. I didn’t care if it was just a small table in the corner of a dining room, but I want to be able to sew downstairs so that I can feel like I’m part of the family (even though it’s just me and Jason for now). When he came home and we started talking about the house, he told me that the kitchen was bigger than our current one (a priority for me) and he thought that the dining room could be used for our living room so that I could have the room that would normally be used as a living room because he knew that was important to me. With that, I knew that moving was the best move for us.
And don’t worry–I will definitely be showing updates as they become available! Not many girls could just buy a house sight unseen…but that’s the life of being married to a farmer. To make things more interesting, mom and I will likely be moving at about the same time!!
Wow! That’s brave! And such trust! But if my guy said that I could turn the living room into my sewing room, I don’t think I would be too worried… I would be too excited! Hope you love it and it is better than your dreams!
How very exciting!! I’d love to live in an older home in the middle of 300 acres!! God luck!!
Wow Kelli! Great news! Imagine all the new chalk projects you can work on while setting up the sewing room :)
The outside looks cute!
Jason is lucky to have you! So many gals your age are so darn particularly about every detail of their lives. Your Mama raised you right. Blessings to all of you.
Congrats! I’ll look forward to hearing and seeing more about your new home. Exciting times! I’ve moved into a couple of houses without seeing them first. It’s always an adventure. Enjoy!

Wow! That is so exciting for you! As a person who grew up on a farm I do know how the house is secondary to the land but it sounds like your house has all the main things you are looking for. Also, I know farmers and most of them are handy and can do just about anything so I will bet that you both will be able to make the house into exactly what you like.
Good luck honey. I’m sure you guys will be great. These are your learning years. Enjoy all the adventures. Micki
How wonderfully awesome!!!!! I hope you and your mom can do the moving one weekend after the other!! I know both of you will be counting on the whole family pitching in to help with the move!! I hope you love living on your farm as much as I love living on mine!!!
That’s great Kelli! I’m very happy for you! You are one lucky girl!
Congratulations! It sounds wonderful! I will enjoy following along on your house adventure as much as I am enjoying your Mom’s!
That sounds like a grand adventure and a wonderful opportunity!
