A Little Snow Must Fall

All week long, the weather predicted snow for Thursday into Friday last week. We went to bed Wednesday night with a 2-4 prediction. Thursday, we woke to 3-7. Thursday by noon, it was 5-9. Then at bedtime on Thursday we were to 4-8. When I went to bed at 10:30 pm on Thursday night, we had a dusting of snow. I could hear it, and it sounded more like sleet than snow.

Friday morning I woke up to my phone dinging. This was the message Kelli had sent. “Waucoma made the news!” What? 14 inches. No way. We did not get 14″.

That woke my curiosity more than it woke my body, so I was out of bed and looked out the window. It didn’t look like 14″ to me!

We went downstairs…The bird feeders were busy…and snow-covered.

Rosie wanted outside.

Um…Maybe we did get 14″.

Poor Rosie was so confused. The snow was WAY deeper than her belly.

Then I checked the garage door…

Holy WOW! The snow REALLY drifted in. I was starting to believe that 14″ might be accurate.

In all the time we have lived here, I have never seen snow like this. 6-8″ has been about the max, and it never drifted in like this!

I sent some pictures to the kids…Karl said he would come over and snowblow. This is the back patio.

Here he is out front.

He had to make two or more passes by the hydrant just to get it cleared.

He only does part of the driveway. I have a service that comes and finishes it.

Then he did my sidewalks. Then he walked the snow blower to his house. He had to dig out his car.

Offda!!

I promised him breakfast when he was done…we ended up having more of a brunch. I made some homemade soup and hard-boiled eggs. He was happy with the simple meal.

He didn’t go to work…so after this, he was going home to enjoy his day.

Typically, around here, forecasters hype up how much snow we are going to get, and then we get none. Rarely do we exceed what they predict. I guess this is just one of those rare days.

  1. I thought I was going to shovel my driveway…since it was light and fluffy. Yeah, we must’ve had 10 inches, and I called to have someone else clean it out. We should be down to 1 snowstorm left…during girls’ state basketball tournament. lol

  2. Thanks for the pics. That just further reinforces the desire to live where I do in SW Florida. Everybody here was fussing about the temp getting down to freezing a couple of nights. Stay warm and safe.

  3. Oh you did get snow!! Don’t you love it?!! I like snowstorms, even more now that I don’t go to work and then have to shovel my car out at the end of day. Thankfully when we got the worst dumping my hubby was back on the job. Earlier we received many inches and I was duty and I shoveled quite a bit but then a neighbor came with his little skid steer – he didn’t want me to fall! Michigan has received much this year.

  4. Loved the Uffda! Between that and the snow, it reminded me of days on the farm in ND. Karl is such a sweet son to come and take care of you that way.

  5. Hi Jo! This is a crazy winter. While you were getting 14 inches of snow, here is Columbus we were having severe thunderstorm warnings and a couple of inches of RAIN! Thank goodness for your son to help you out.

  6. Here in NC where I live, rarely do we get over 3”. We get more ice than snow, which I would rather have snow than ice. The snow storm we had end of January first of February, we got 16.7” of snow with an inch of ice under that. Even after roads were cleared, I didn’t drive for over two weeks. My car stayed in garage and me in house. Hopefully we won’t have any more bad weather.

  7. It reminds me of the year, a week before Christmas and they were forecasting 12-20”. E woke up to 3’- yes feet! It was closer to 4’ by the time it was done. Snow plows got stuck. Some roads only 1 lane was plowed. Our farmer son-in-law plowed us out and some of the roads as he traveled. A week later we got s much rain as we had snow and had flooding for Christmas! It was 2020 and my daughter unknowingly brought to Christmas! Lots of memories from that year!
