A Friday Finish

My March UFO is finished!!  To see more of UFO finishes, check out Patchwork Times.
When my girls were home last weekend, in between the hustle and bustle, I put the final stitches in my wool applique project.

Now I need to find a frame for it.  I have been looking and looking for the past few months at my local thrift store haunts but the size is odd.  There are just no frames that are that odd size.   I can’t wait to see it all framed and ready to hang.

For anyone wondering the pattern is Alphabet Song by Threads That Bind.  If you’re looking of the pattern, Country Threads has it here.

I am hoping while Kelli and I are at sewing at out retreat this weekend with the Mississippi Valley Quilters that we can stop at JoAnn’s one night and get it framed.  BUT Hubby said he is willing to make a frame that size for me if I purchase some picture frame wood so we’ll do a little investigating and see what we find…you know me, I have to find the cheapest way…

I am going to take some time and kit up a wool project to work on at night for when I am gone this weekend.  It had been a long time since I’ve done a wool project (except for my recent needle case) and missed working with wool.

To see some other finished projects check out Confessions of a Fabric Addict, Sew Many Ways and Crazy Mom Quilts.   Also I have a giveaway going on for The Learning Curve Ruler..follow this link to see the tutorial and review as well as sign up to win one.

  1. *sigh* I sang the alphabet song. And I will probably be singing it all day… ;-)

This is really beautiful. Good luck finding the perfect frame. I think sometimes finding the frame takes longer than creating the piece!

  2. it looks wonderful! good luck with the framing bit. have you thought about “harvesting” some barn wood from somewhere and making a frame from that? i think it would be a perfect pairing, and probably very inexpensive, if you find the right source. i actually made a few barn wood frames several years back. i’m not a pro by any means, but they came together pretty easily. just a thought. :)

thanks for linking up to finish it up Friday!

  3. Your alphabet wool project is wonderful! These are great projects to work on in the evening or just to keep in the car and grab when those long trains hold one up. Have a great time on your retreat week-end

  4. What a darling project! Congrats on a wonderful finish.
For framing: if you find something you like in a “turn-around” shop and it is longer or wider [a good thing!], perhaps your handy DHubs can modify the length or width to fit your project. This is way easier than making a frame from scratch AND usually considerably cheaper. Good luck. HOpe you will post a finished pic when you find a frame you like.
    Have fun on your retreat!
