On Thursday night, Rick called me to tell me that he had a surprise for me and he was taking Friday off!! He wanted to come over and get a jump start on the weekend tasks so we could actually enjoy the weekend. I said that it sounded great, but I had physical therapy on Friday morning and was going with Kalissa as she had errands in town too. He was fine with that.
So I went to town. Rick mowed the lawn…and did the weed eating. He worked on the door in the kitchen as the latch was sticking. Then he started working on getting the tiller running.
Kalissa and I got our things done, then headed home. Physical therapy went well, and I’m released again unless I feel like I didn’t get better in two weeks. We determined that my right leg is slightly shorter than my left, and he made a riser for my shoe to help with that. He was hopeful that things would be easier with walking now that the riser was in my right shoe.
Once we were home, Anders went to go out the back door, and the latch on the door acted up again. I told Rick we should just get a new doorknob. I’d have left it for the time being, but Rick really wanted the knob fixed as some of the family were coming home on Sunday. Then he explained that he was having trouble with the tiller and getting it going because I really didn’t have a ratchet set or open-ended wrenches.
I suggested going to town and getting the tools and a new doorknob. Rick was right on board. As he was putting a few things away, I loaded up stuff to donate to the thrift store and grocery bags. The grocery bags I collect and give to my friend Lana, who makes layettes for Lutheran World Relief. Her husband Erv cuts the bags up and makes them into plarn (plastic yarn) balls. Then they give them to another lady who crochets them into mats for people who are homeless.
It was nice because Lana was going to get to meet Rick. Lana is one of my favorite people in the world, and I aspire to be like her. I wanted her to meet Rick.
When we were at Lana’s house, I saw her beautifully blooming African violets. They were so pretty. I asked Lana for a leaf so I could start one. She did me even better…she had a baby that she shared with me. Rick and I both have NEVER seen such huge violets. They were truly beautiful…hopefully I can keep this little start growing.

Lana said as long as I was at her house, she had some fabric I might want. A friend of hers brought her totes and totes of fabric. So far, Lana had been through nine of the totes. She pulled any 3-yard pieces of fabric to make into sewing kits for Lutheran World Relief, kept some herself, and was sorting out small fabric pieces that weren’t of use to her.
She asked me if I wanted this bag, and I immediately said YES!

Then she said she had a couple of bags of small scraps. Did I want them? Of course, I said yes. She gave me these two bags. Oh my word!! I was thinking grocery sacks. She was thinking of kitchen garbage bags!!

I was excited!! I’ll be spending some time going through these bags!! THANKS Lana!!

While we were in town, I remembered something. I was at the thrift store when Kalissa and I had been in town that morning. They had some kids’ chairs. They stack on top of each other. I was wondering about having them in the garage for the kids to sit on while we were hanging in the garage.

We ended up with 13 chairs for $30.
We also got the tools. I haven’t had what I needed…Rick helped me pick them out. Rick found a place to organize them, too.

When we got home, he replaced the doorknob.

Then he started trying to get the tiller going. That proved to be more of a task, and he ended up not getting it started.

We watched the Indiana Fever game. The Fever won!
For supper I made Pork Chops and Rice. You can find the recipe HERE.
It was a busy day…productive day, but a fun day.

Yes a very busy and productive day! I think you hit the jackpot with the fabric. Those two big bags will be fun to go through, but the other bag has organized fabric pieces – how great is that! I am so happy that you have someone who is so helpful fixing things or doing yard work for you. Keep him!!
Just a quick note to tell you what happened when I had a lift put in my shoe because of my scoliosis. Strongly, I developed a lot of pain in my neck and shoulder and found out it was because when you do that it changes the way your head is carried. Your head centers itself above your spine and when there is a lift in one shoe it changes things and can cause pain. Sounds weird doesn’t it? I removed the lift and the pain went away. Just wanted you to know what to watch for.
Looks like you fun and busy day!
My mom made pork chops & rice as long as I can remember, so of course, I do too. We use 1 can consommé (beef broth) soup, 1 can of uncooked rice, with the browned pork chops on top. Mom always sliced onions to go on top, but I just throw some onion flakes into the rice. Then top everything with sliced tomatoes … there can’t be too many … we all like them the best! Bake an hour or so @ 350 (until rice is cooked). Yum!!!
I’ve done the pork chops & rice with added slices of sweet green pepper, onions, and tomatoes. Sometimes I use tomato juice for the liquid.
Rick is so handy – and that’s a really good thing!
I have a shorter leg too. I buy lifts for my shoe from amazon. mine is only a 1/4 inch so I buy one that is adjustable from amazon. There are several, I usually buy the Mars Wellness leather Made in USA lift.
What a gift all that fabric is! I am wondering if you will do a video while you sort…hint, hint!! I’d love to see both your process again and what’s in the bags. Have a wonderful day!
