A Blog Reader’s Version: Points of Interest

You might remember a bit ago we had a quilt featured in April edition of American Patchwork and Quilting.

Our quilt looked like this…

Well I got a note from a blog reader, Jill Klopp.  She writes, “Hi Jo!  I just finished a version of your Points of Interest quilt and wanted to share it with you. I’ve been wanting a patriotic wall hanging for the house for a while. I was given some red, cream and blue fabrics last fall. When you posted your quilt, I knew right away that was my project. I ran out and bought the magazine and got this done. Thanks so much for another great project!”

I opened the attached pictures and WOW!!  I was so impressed…take a look.

I love the color way….I love it lots.

I like the varied colors of the stars too with the sashing stars red and the block stars blue.  Awesome idea.

I mentioned to Jill that the flowers match the quilt.  She wrote saying, “We were at our hunting lease in the Texas Hill Country, so I had a beautiful backdrop for pictures!  You can’t beat the wildflowers here in the spring! ”

Kelli made our version of this…Hmmm.  I might have to make one now too but my will definitely be in a color way more like this one!

Thanks so much for the inspiration Jill…I love it!

If anyone else ever makes one of our quilts, we’d love to see it and share it here on the blog.  Send you quilt picture to me at rogjok@iowatelecom.net.

  1. Those are some beautiful quilts! What I want to know is how do you get a pattern or quilt accepted in a magazine?

  2. Both quilts are beautiful! I’d love to make your quilt well actually two quilts now ~ one in each colorway as shown! Just amazing how versatile a pattern can be & look great in two completely different colorways!

Jo, I can only imagine how thrilled you were at this gorgeous version of your design! I want to mention, on the other side of the coin, how thrilling it is for your readers when we find one of your quilt designs in a favorite publication. I saw your “Stair Steps” in the August issue of American Patchwork & Quilting and fell in love with the quilt. I had started cutting it within a week of having the issue dropped into my mailbox! I decided to make it bigger – sigh…I think I have all of the individual blocks sewn together by now but I always work on a number of projects at the same time, so I do not know when I will finish it. I am making the triangle blocks with black and cream triangles, and the rectangles in all colors of Civil War reproduction fabrics. So much fun! Thanks for the inspiration!

I like how just changing the colors can make a completely different look. About whether you should put glass on your crosstitch pictures. I have done a lot over the years and I always put glass. I think it keeps them clean. I love the idea of re-working frames.

  5. Hmmm, I just signed up for a red white and blue mini quilt swap on instagram, and I’m thinking that doing one of the stars plus the borders would be great! Time to go dig out that magazine… Thanks for the inspiration!

  6. Beautifully done, Jill! I could see this done in some Christmas fabrics I have with the stars being the ornaments, but I really your interpretation! Thanks for sharing!
