Community Quilts from Ray

I have quilts from Ray to share with you today.

Ray writes:
Today I finished a quilt that came from the Cresco ladies. If memory serves me right, they had an orphan block marathon and this is a top that came from that project.

I love the variety of designs in the blocks. They definitely know how to put them together. One of these days I am going to gather up some of the orphan blocks that have been sent to me and see if I can create a quilt.

I used the stipple motif and bone thread to keep the impact of the quilting to a minimum.

Those lonely blocks need to take center stage. The backing is from the now-famous Pat and Deb stash.

My thanks to all of you for your contributions to make this beautiful community quilt.”

The next quilt…

Ray writes:

I wanted to share this beautiful quilt with you. The top was created by Jean in WI.

When I first looked at the top, I would have sworn it was a panel with borders added to it. WRONG!! Jean did a superb job of designing and piecing it. It could very well have been a model for a panel design.

She used a combination of fabrics as well as applique. She even went the extra mile by putting a narrow black sashing around the “panel” before adding the blue gingham borders.

I decided to go with the stipple stitch and a bone colored thread so the vintage look would stay intact.

The blue backing is from the Deb and Pat stash.

My thanks to you, Jean, Deb, and Pat for the ingredients to make this spectacular quilt.”

I am so impressed with all the good Ray has done with the Pat and Deb stash.  I encourage all of you reading to find a good thing to do with your stash when you are no longer interested in quilting or you pass away.  Now is the time to tell your family what you want to be done with your quilting goodies.  Find a good charity and pass it on.  I always smile every time I see a quilt with the famous Deb and Pat backing.  Thanks so much, Debbie for your work to make the transfer of fabric to Ray.

Thanks so all who sent tops…and of course to Ray.

Orphan blocks sound so lonely. I prefer the term sampler quilts. From the blocks in the quilt I can see patterns I want to try.. the reason I call them samplers. Job well done Ray. I like the Deb and Patty stash too. Thanks for sharing Jo and Ray.
