Community Quilts from Melinda and Susan

I have quilts in from a new quilt finisher named Melinda.  She’s from Connecticut.  I’m so excited to be sharing them with you.

Melinda writes:

Thank you for connecting me with Susan Hummel of MD. She sent me 4 beautifully made tops for me to quilt. It is such a treat to receive tops to quilt that are well made and very nicely pressed. I have completed two of them and told you I would share some pictures.

Quilt #1

This is a fun and classy quilt top. The focus fabric is a beautiful peacock design.  The pattern is the 4 Patch Posie pattern.  Similar to stack ‘n wack but there is no extra fabric left over.  Google has lots of info on the pattern. Susan said is was so fun to make.

Susan was kind enough to include some backing fabric with the tops and I used one of the pieces for the back.

I quilted it with Mother Goose Signature thread in a medium meander.

It is 59×80.

I found a binding fabric in my stash. I do a zig-zag stitch on my bindings.

Quilt #2…

The second quilt was made with the same 4 Patch Posie pattern but used an adorable doggie baseball pattern.

Perfect for a young boy.

I found a perfect fleece aqua backing in my stash to compliment the sashing of the front.

I quilted this with Signature Cream in a medium meander.
I also found fabric for this binding and stitched it on with a zig-zag. It is 55×65.

These quilts will be donated to Quilts That Care. They are a group here in CT of 100+ volunteer team members dedicated to giving comfort and hope to individuals currently undergoing cancer treatment.”

Thanks so much to both Melinda and Susan for bringing these quilts together.

I asked Melinda if she would be interested in getting more tops.  She wrote:
I would be happy to receive quilt tops and backings directly from “Jo fans” as it would save on postage. Please understand that I don’t have a fancy computer-operated long arm to do fancy stitching for me and due to several health constraints I now only do quick and simple all-over meanders on my comfort quilts.

Quilts that Care has approximate size suggestions that are most useful to them.

Sizes:
Lap  50 x 65
Nap  45 x 55 (or 60)

They are most in need of masculine designs and fun juvenile prints. Although all quilts are gratefully received.

I can be contacted at melicon@aol.com.”

Beautiful quilts. The one dog print jumped out to me since the dog pictured looked like one we had and said goodbye to last fall. Such a good cause they are going to.

Her work is beautiful. Any pattern to get a quilt done and into the hands of someone in need so be enough-should be wonderful. More than I could do.

Loved the pattern. Will have to investigate it online. I have a jigsaw puzzle that is exactly like the dog fabric. I have put it together several times with young family members.
