Charity Quilt for Tanzania

You might remember a bit ago that I had a donated baby quilt top that was here and I asked if anyone might be interested in finishing it up and donating it.  I got a large response from about 10 different people/groups that would be willing to finish it and donate it on.

One of the people that contacted me was Celesta Pyle from Ohio.  She went to explain that she was partnering with a people from the states who were working to bring better health care to the women and children of Tanzania.
I decided that this seemed like a very worth case and that I’d like to feature it here on the blog with the hope that some of you might be interested in sharing in the mission to help the women and children of Tanzania.

“International Health Partners is a small group of Americans who have a big dream. Dr. Denny and Paula Lofstrom, and Mary Ellen Kitundu have been working in Tanzania, bringing better Medical and Health opportunities to Tanzanians. 46,000 babies die at birth in Tanzania, and every 60 minutes a woman dies in Tanzania due to pregnancy. “The birthing center is almost ready to open.”

“Paula’s dream is to be able to hand a baby quilt to each of the new mothers as they leave the hospital with their newborn, and that’s what our small group of ladies from the local Lutheran church are working on, baby quilts for these new mothers. There is no requirement for size, our goal is be approximately 36″ X 40“.

They can however use any size baby quilts and also quilts for beds at the birthing center and the clinic. Our group would love any unfinished tops, finished baby quilts and regular size quilts, whatever you have made and needs a good home.

I think this would be a wonderful place to donate quilt tops to.  I know many of you have started projects you don’t love anymore.  You have scraps you want to use up but don’t necessarily need more quilts, this is a great place to send them to.  As you can see the quilts that have been sent aren’t fancy.  They aren’t made with the newest fabrics from the quilt shop.  The fabric you have, the skill you have and the time you are all this group needs to help the women and children of Tanzania.

I’ve asked Celesta to let me know if quilt tops come in to her from any of the readers.  She’s said she will try to take pictures of some of the finished quilts and send them to me so I can feature them here on the blog.
