Stash Report

I caved and order fabric from Whittles Fabrics.  Fabric there is often only $5 a yard so I’ve been known to get tempted.  I needed the lime green backing.

As always..Whittle’s had what I wanted and more….too much more.  I purchased the lime green $4 a yard for the backing.

Fabric-1
Then while I was there…(come one, you know how it goes..I was already paying the $6 standard shipping charge. Why not make the most of it?)Then they had the cute two flannels to the left…and well -I am going to be a grandma.  I thought to give those to Kayla and see if she would make a couple nice crochet edged receiving blankets for Kalissa.

Then I have three baby quilts that I know I have to make.  The fabric with the people on would make a cute backing for girl baby quilts.

Then they had a grab bag of Civil War fat quarters for $12 (front to the right)…I always love those.  It gives me great variety as often I wouldn’t buy those prints.  I think it gives my quilts more depth.

Then as long as I was there I got to thinking….Bonnie Hunter’s been teasing us all with her gray string blocks.  I am guessing I’ll likely be making whatever quilt she’s making once that book comes out…but I don’t have grays so what the heck.  I had them add some grays.  I love them all.  I often do that.  I’ll just send Cathy, from Whittles, a note and tell her to pick out 10 grays of half yard cuts.  Cathy picks out great ones every time.  When fabric is typically only $5 a yard, even if I’d get a dud, I’ll just chop it up and add it to a scrap quilt….it’s all good.

As always…Whittles came through with some great fabrics for me.

  1. I love to go to Whittle’s Fabrics. That’s one of the advantages of living less than 2 hours away from their store…I get to pet the pretty fabrics.

  2. I am resisting. . .stash management at my house has to continue to happen AND I am making myself FINISH some things, before I buy. But oh, you got some lovely fabrics.

  3. Love your purchases. A point of interest – when you buy fabric that you intend to use for backings, how much do you order? I mostly make Baby quilts or quilts up to Single bed size and never know what the most sensible and useful amounts to buy. Thank you in advance for your answer, Jo.

    1. I buy six yards for full and queen quilts. It’s less then I need but then I just add a strip of something else to it.

  4. Thank you for mentioning Whittles.
I live in northern NJ and there are no quilt shops close by so I am often looking for reproduction prints online and most times they are $10 plus a yard.
Any other shops you can recommend that are reasonably priced would be welcomed

Jo, I heard about Whittles from previous blogs you’ve written. I have placed orders with them and love the prices and service. You are such an enabler. I am so proud to know you.

  6. Oh, those fabrics are all so pretty, love those greys and the civil war repros. I also want to thank you for recommending Whittles; they are so reasonable. I previously bought some fat quarter bundles for the reds and blacks for Bonnie Hunter’s Allietare. Happy Fourth!
