What I’m Reading: The Forgiving Kind

I had a blog reader recommend the author Donna Everhart.  I checked out Hoopla, my online library, and they had several of her books.  I picked The Education of Dixie Dupree for book club and I ended up checking out the book, The Forgiving Kind.

As a quick reminder, we are taking the month of July to read The Education of Dixie Dupree for book club.  We’ll talk about it on August 1st.
But back to the Forgiving Kind…
I LOVED this book.  I’ve told you before that my favorite books are hardscrabble coming of age books.  This one was exactly that.  Just a heads up, it does deal with some domestic violence but not in a graphic overpowering way.

I’ve also said I need to really love a character and be able to put myself in the shoes of the character.  I could easily do this with “Sonny”.  There were other characters I could easily love too.

The book is a little predictable but still very good.

Here is what Amazon had to say:

Community Quilts From Ronda

I have community quilts to share from Ronda today.  Earlier in the year, Ronda let me know that she won’t be doing many more community quilts with us.  It’s sad news but I totally understand.  She’s been finishing up the ones she has left and will be sharing them here.

Ronda writes:
My sister made all three of these tops from scraps sent to me by various readers of yours.

The backing for the pink and gray framed 9-patch came from Karen S. of Chino, California and that quilt is 53″ square.

Dirty Dozen in Review 2021

Mary at Country Threads hosts a Dirty Dozen every year starting in July and goes through the next July.  In the past, it’s always meant selecting 12 projects and putting them on a list.  Then each month Mary picks a number and participants work on that project.  I always loosely follow along.  I don’t always work on the selected number.  I don’t always finish the correct projects but it’s a very loose group with few rules.  I’m okay to participate in the fray.

I thought I would go through last year’s list and give you an update.  I had only finished one project prior to April.  I had done terribly.  Then I sat down and had a talk with myself and gave myself a kick in the pants.  I did AMAZING for the rest of the year.

So…Here is where I sit.

These are the projects that got zero attention.

#4-Floribunda- I haven’t touched this.
This is Bonnie Hunter’s quilt:  I have most everything here to make this.  I collected floral scraps over the years.  There was enough for me and Kelli to make the quilt.  Kelli ended up taking the fabric and cutting strips for us both.

That’s as far as the quilt got.

Blast from the Past: June 2012

I’m doing a little series of posts that feature old blog posts.  I have been going back and looking at them.  It’s been fun.  I started blogging in June of 2009…WOW.  Over ten years.  I’m so glad I’ve kept the blog as a diary of sorts…today I’m telling you about things I was working on in June of 2012.

We had a Moda Bake Shop project.  It was called Peaks and Valleys.  It was a fun quilt to make.  We have it listed as a free pattern here on the blog now.  You can find it HERE.  You can read the original post about the quilt HERE.

I didn’t remember where I had gifted this quilt.  Then last week I saw a picture my niece posted of their cat wall.  Notice the quilt in the rocking chair.

I gifted it to my niece!!  I love that she still has it and is using it.

Don’t you love the cat wall??  So cool.
