I just finished listening to the book The Breakdown: The 2017 Gripping Thriller from the Bestselling Author of Behind Closed Doors by B.A. Paris. I saw this book at my online library and decided that I should put it on my waiting list. I had read the previous book that the author wrote and had liked it so maybe I’d like this book too.
This is a mystery thriller. It’s premise is actually pretty good. There’s a lady found dead, someone who is having a break down, husbands and friends all rolled into the “who dun it”. I had a suspicion all along but I kept guessing and reguessing what I thought along the way. Until the last chapter I wasn’t completely sure who the guilty party was. The book really kept my interest and I tried to find ways to sneak in some listening time.
Here’s what Amazon had to say:“If you can’t trust yourself, who can you trust?
Cass is having a hard time since the night she saw the car in the woods, on the winding rural road, in the middle of a downpour, with the woman sitting inside―the woman who was killed. She’s been trying to put the crime out of her mind; what could she have done, really? It’s a dangerous road to be on in the middle of a storm. Her husband would be furious if he knew she’d broken her promise not to take that shortcut home. And she probably would only have been hurt herself if she’d stopped.
But since then, she’s been forgetting every little thing: where she left the car, if she took her pills, the alarm code, why she ordered a pram when she doesn’t have a baby.
The only thing she can’t forget is that woman, the woman she might have saved, and the terrible nagging guilt.
Or the silent calls she’s receiving, or the feeling that someone’s watching her…”
Amazon readers give the book 4.1 stars…hmmmm…I think I’d give it more. Likely 4.5 stars. Some Amazon reviewers said it was slow. I didn’t feel that way…. I will look for more books by this author in the future.
