What I’m Working On: Perkiomen Daydreams and Easy Street

Remember last Christmas when Kelli and I gifted two Perkiomen Daydreams quilts?  One went to my daughter Kayla and the other to our son Buck.

Each quilt has 10,000 pieces that all finish at 1″.  WOW…right??  Here is the original blog post about that.

At the time we sewed those two, we had cut out TWO more…one for Kelli and one for me.  Well my goal is to finish those up so Kelli and I can each get ours for Christmas this year.  I hope it will Kelli’s goal too.  Without her there’s no way we’ll finish these up.

It’s been fun working on our two quilts over the past year.  It’s been my car project.  I pin the strips together on my way to EVERYWHERE…even church.  I finally have enough blocks done for one quilt…and I am guessing about half of the next.

We have worked on this together yet separately too.  We both cut strips…Kelli did the most of that work.  We both sewed strips together.  Kelli did ALL of the ironing and cutting of segments.  I’ve done 95 % of the pinning and sewing on these last quilt blocks.  Next up, the batch of blocks is going back to Kelli.  She’s going to iron and pin the blocks together.  Both of us will probably sew strips together once she has them pinned.  Then I will quilt them.

Kelli has such an great system and never has turned a block in all of the 800 blocks she’s pinned together.  I tried to pin one strip of blocks and was LOST!  Trust me, Kelli is the pinning queen.

Sewing these last two quilts is sort of like the changing of the guard.  These are going to Kelli house today.

She’s going to iron, press and start pinning rows together.  I still have a batch of blocks that I am going to finish sewing the last two strips on.  I am a little sad to do that as I’ll really miss having this as a car project…oh well, I guess I’ll start ripping papers off my Pineapple Crazy blocks for my new project.

If you are looking for the pattern for this quilt it is in Scraps & Shirttails: Reuse, Re-pupose, Recycle! The Art of “Quilting Green”.

December 25th is fast approaching.  I really hope we can get these done for Christmas presents to each other.

I am working on Easy Street too.  Clue one is finished….I started clue two but but I’m not very far yet.

Four *dreamy* quilts. Congratulations to you and Kelli! There’s such a funny feeling when a long-term project comes to a close….but you’ve got Easy Street to fill the void.

I’m working on Perkiomen Day Dreams as well. I’m on strip set 3. My LAQ thinks I’m crazy for starting this quilt. I can’t wait to get it done!

I look so forward to seeing your Easy Street come to life. I was so disappointed when I saw the debut of Bonnie’s colors, I don’t do brights. Your fabrics are right up my alley!

All I can say is WOW! Your Perkiomen Daydreams quilts are amazing. And I love the colors you’ve chosen for Easy Street.

I’ve learned never to say never…..but I don’t think I will be doing your postage stamp/log cabin style quilt in my lifetime. However, they are both beautiful and to think of two more quilts…..it boggles my mind. Good on you!

To do just one of the Perki quilts is an accomplishment but to do four??? You are both amazing quilters. Your flying geese look lovely too.
