I had a couple bad looking apples so I thought I should do something with them. Â I had my Cross of Christ Lutheran Church cookbook from Houston, MN out as it’s my go to book for my fried rice recipe so I paged through and there was a recipe for Sour Cream Apple Squares. Â I thought I would give it a try.
They don’t look very pretty. Â In fact, Craig was by and I told him to try them. Â Craig said, they don’t look so good. Â I told him to try them and then he had three. Â They are good!!
Here’s the recipe:
2 cups flour
2 cups brown sugar
1/2 cup butter
1 cup chopped nuts
1 Â 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
1 teaspoon soda
1 cup dairy sour cream
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 egg
2 cups peeled and chopped apples
Combine the first three ingredients in a mixing bowl. Â Blend at low speed until crumbly. Â Stir in nuts. Â Press 2 Â 3/4 cups crumb mixture into ungreased 9 x 13 panc. Â To the remaining mixture add cinnamon, soda, sour cream, vanilla and egg. Â Blend well. Â Stir in apples and spoon over base. Â bake 25-35 minutes in a 350 degree oven.
They are wonderful and a great way to use up a couple dud apples.
You’re making me wish I had a reliable oven!
I would also love your fried rice recipe…(geeze these followers are so darn demanding…haha)
Sounds yummy, thanks.
ooooh they look delicous! :)
Do you use Plain or Self Raising flour in them? {I’m in Australia, so please excuse my ignorance if this is a silly question :) }
