Thrifty Day!

Oh, my word…I had the best thrift store day.  Seriously, the best!  Let me tell you all about it.

Saturday I had to go to town to pick up a prescription and for me, that means a thrift store run.  Here are the goodies I bought.  I spent much more than I typically do but in the end, it’s all good.  I can’t wait to show you the goodies I got.

Here they are…collectively, it doesn’t look like much but wait until I tell you about it all.

Sorry, the picture is fuzzy, but I found this vintage embroidery hoop.  I have another vintage hoop that I keep in my dough bowl.  I use it as a filler piece.  This will go with it and it was only 25 cents.

I bought these two pieces.  I knew exactly where I was going to put them.

The spools went on my cross-stitch wall.  There was a narrow spot it could fit perfectly and it’s prim looking so I thought it was perfect.

I put the “Raised on Country Sunshine” piece here…

Elbow Grease for the Win

I had to get my meds refilled so Gannon and I went to do that and other errands the other day.  In full disclosure:  “Errands” is a code word meaning “stop at the thrift store”.

We shopped and I came across this table.  It was $5.  There were no chairs-I already had the ones in the picture.  Just the table.  As you can see, it was looking pretty tough on the top.  There was paint, tape, goo and I think maybe fingernail polish in one spot…still $5 was cheap.

This was the worst spot… Continue reading

Goodwill Find: Old Sewing Stand

I think this is going to be a fun blog post.  I know I sure had fun exploring.  Here’s the story:

I already told you that on Sunday I went to get my Covid shot.  I already told you that when I was in town I stopped at Goodwill.  I already told you that I found this…

It is an old sewing basket/stand.  I saw it and I have several of these already.  I didn’t need another.  I don’t even know if I have a place for one.  Ah…but what’s a girl to do when it’s only $10??

Then I opened it up and immediately, I knew I wanted to buy it.

The stand was stuffed to the brim with sewing treasures.  Here’s what I found… Continue reading

Thrifting for Fabric

It’s no secret I am a big-time thrifter.  I haven’t been thrifting nearly as much since Covid hit back in 2020.  In general, I am just not in town as much so that means fewer stops.  That means fewer opportunities to find goodies.

Then for a while, all of the fabric that was coming into the thrift store was being snagged by local ladies who were making masks then volunteering at the store to help with making sure those who entered wore masks.  That meant there was never cotton quilting fabric to be found.

I still looked when I went but I rarely found fabric.  Fast forward to a week or so ago.  I was in town because I had a doctor’s appointment and needed to have a blood draw in advance of the appointment.

I looked for fabric and FOUND SOME!

I found some awesome lightweight T-shirt fabric.  I am collecting that for a blog reader who has been making sleepers for the baby care kits that my friend makes for Lutheran World Relief.  Some might not pick these darker colors but they are perfect as many of these kits go to third-world countries and they don’t have access to laundry like we do.  These darker colors that we here in the USA don’t think of as baby colors.

These were all unmarked so they are only 50 cents per piece of fabric.

I found this…  $2.  I unrolled it and there is 2 1/4 yards.

It is a Civil War reproduction print that I have often used in the past and will happily use again.

This was… Continue reading
