String Challenge and More

So remember I told you that Kelli was obsessed with shirts right now.  Dang it.  It rubbed off on me.  I was helping her look for possible shirt ideas and then…it happened.  At least I don’t have TONS of shirts to cut down but I’m not guarenteeing that won’t happen yet.  You know how it goes.  I find one shirt that’s a great color and then suddenly I have a cart full!!

In all of that I came across a website Floating on a Cloud….and this quilt. Photo Courtesy of the site.  Link here.

I studied and studied and studied that picture.  I want to make this quilt!!!  I want to make it so bad that this happened.

Aren’t they precious?  I’m in love.  I want more and more and more of these under my needle!!  As I’m writing this and looking at the picture again, I need to pull more reds!

That’s all it took to pull me into a shirt project again.  I admit…I love them.

Onto my String Challenge:
I said last week that my goal was to get this whole Pineapple Crazy top together.  I got the borders sewn together and the side borders attached but then…ugh.  I forgot about the corner blocks.
(don’t you love my “keeping in real” messy picture of my sewing room floor?)
Well…what to do? I have changed my version of this quilt up a bit.  Here’s a picture of the original.

String Challenge and More

On the String Challenge front….
For those of you who have been following along with me, you know that I’ve challenged myself to finish all of the quilts in Bonnie Hunter’s new book String Fling before her new string book comes out.  As of now I have three quilts left to make….
Pineapple Crazy
Tulip Bed
Daylilies

I told you that I was sick last week…again.

Before I ended up on the couch for some rest I managed to get all, as in EVERY LAST ONE, of my Pineapple Crazy blocks sewn!!  I was so happy.

I stopped and snapped a picture of the last block on the last stitch.  If you’ve made this quilt…you would understand why them moment needed to be memorialized.

After that, it was time to trim and de-paper.  I love my little square ruler for squaring up.  I use it a lot!

Over the next two days, Hubby and I went to a garage sale.  I grabbed the blocks and de-papered in the car.  He drove me to the doctor and I de-papered then too.

Once home from the doctor I was banished to the couch but decided that my Pineapple Crazy blocks were going with me.  I de-papered and watched an episode on Netflix.  That’s all the time I needed to finish my de-papering and there it was…. Continue reading

Being that I finished Charlotte’s Baskets I thought I might as well get going on Pineapple Crazy.  It’s my closest quilt to a finish.

I have the center finished.

All I need is the outer blocks…there are 60 of those.

Here’s where I am at with them.  There are
21 completely finished and de-papered
16 need de-papering
15 with the center done
7 with centers started
That totaled is 59.

Being I need 60 I needed to print one more paper.

When I started this project long ago I made these master copies.  I need the top part for Pineapple Crazy.  I hate wasting paper so on the bottom I put Wild and Goosey blocks.  I didn’t know if I would make that quilt at the time I was printing these but I thought just in case I do, I’d have these printed and wouldn’t have wasted paper.
After all of this work of making a larger paper pieced quilt, would I really make another…..Hmmm.

I print all of these on cheap tracing paper from a dollar store.  It has been a life saver in working this project.  I HIGHLY recommend printing on tracing paper.  The first blocks I did without it.  After that I switched to tracing paper and I will NEVER paper piece without tracing paper.  It’s so nice to work with.

I got my LAST block printed.  THE END IS IN SIGHT!!!  I almost can’t believe it….it’s been a long process.
I am going to be so happy to have completed this long term project.  Seriously…I never dreamed I could do this.  So will I go and do Wild and Goosey?  It’s a paper pieced project too.  I’ve been thinking a lot about whether I want to start another….I have a lot of the papers already printed…but I’m sure I could pass them along to one of you blog readers.  They wouldn’t go to waste.  So here’s what I decided….. What I’m Working On…and String Challenge

If you follow me on Instagram you might have noticed that on Friday morning I posted this picture.

I was so excited!  I had all of my blocks finished!!  The time sewing this has gone by so quickly.  I ended up looking as to when I first started talking about the quilt on the blog.  It was January 11th.  I had started it a few days before then but not a lot earlier.  I’d guess I started it on the  8th…I finished it on the 18th!!  I wish some of my other quilts happened that quickly.

I’ve been so excited working on this…I’ve been up early in the morning and hurried through kitchen clean up at night.  The little printed fabrics in these blocks is so stinking cute I loved working on them and wanted to get back to them.

Thursday the childcare kiddos all ended up leaving early.  I was completely done with childcare at 4:30pm.  Typically it’s 5pm or after and then I have clean up after that.  I decided to take advantage of the opportunity and ran to the sewing room to start piecing this quilt top together.

By bedtime I had this!!! Continue reading
