Blogger’s Quilt Festival

It’s that time of the year again….It’s the blogger quilt festival!  It’s a great chance to see MANY great quilts and to visit blogs that I regularly read and get introduced to new bloggers.  If you are new to Jo’s Country Junction, WELCOME!

The festival is sponsored by Amy over at Amy’s Creative Side.

The quilt I am showing you today is a quilt I made as a block of the month, two years ago.  The designer is Open Gate Quilts.  It’s from the Cottage Collection Book….well sorta.

Our local quilt shop sponsored the Block of the Month.  Each month we would get 1/8 of a yard of fabric and we had to use it our block.  We could do anything we wanted, as long as that fabric was used in the block.  Well…I LOVED it.  We were supposed to make one block…I made anywhere from 4-8 using other fabric for the extra blocks.  At the time, I was thinking I would make a couple quilts out of the blocks.  When the time came to put it together, I decided to make one large queen size quilt adjusting the pattern to the larger size.   I really enjoyed using this book as a block of the month.  Everyone in a group can make the same blocks, but the book offers seven different settings so each persons individual quilt can look VERY different from other participants.

This is one of the first quilts I quilted on with my Grand Quilter.  I was just learning so I used a simple stipple design which worked out just great, letting the patchwork do the “speaking”.  All of the fabrics are Civil War Reproductions except for the blue borders around the blocks…That’s a Kim Deihl fabric.

I used a stripe on the back…I love stripes for backing fabrics.  One of the reasons I like them is that it is easy to piece them together so that the seam isn’t noticeable.

That’s the story of my quilt….Thanks for stopping by and feel free to stop by again.

Blog News….

STOP RIGHT THERE.
Did you notice the changes?  Look along the left hand side.  I added two new pages, Quilts of 2009 and Quilts of 2010.  Give them a click and check out my finishes.  Check out the right hand side….there are pictures of projects I am working on that I hope to move over to the Quilts of 2010 page.  Honestly, I am working on more projects than that….I just haven’t told you all about them yet.

On another note….Last week I asked you help to locate more of these dishes….

Well…good news….I got an email from pal of mine and she told me about Replacements, Ltd.  If you love the pattern of dinnerware you have but need replacement parts, check it out.  They have a bizzillion different patterns from different companies.  They don’t have my pattern right now, but at least we identified the pattern.  They also put me on a list and will notify whenever they get pieces in.  I am keeping my fingers crossed…

Now I am off to sew….seeing all those photos of works in progress has really inspired me!

Warm Hands

When my daughter Kayla (from Kayla Ks Thrifty Ways) was home last, she brought this for me….a belated birthday present!
BDayMittens-1
Can you guess what it is in the present?  Yes, of course, it is a mitten.  BUT it isn’t just any mitten…it’s a beautiful hand knit mitten that matches the one she gave me last year for my birthday.
BDayMittens-2
Yes…she did give one mitten last year and one mitten this year.  Let me tell you, I love them.  Kayla insisted that I wear them and not hang them as a decoration….and I am trying to honor that.  I hate when I give presents and people don’t use them….so I am wearing them …but I have been SUPER careful!  For how cold it’s been here in Iowa it sure is great to have warm hands and a daughter who knows how to knit.

The Blog Fairy is Coming…

it’s excitng news…

The Blog Fairy

My blog is going to get a complete makeover.  I know, a new name and now a new makeover…nothing ever stays the same.  I just emailed the Blog Fairy and placed an order.  I can’t wait to see what she comes up with.

On her website she has many examples of blogs that she has designed and they all look WONDERFUL!!  Mine is going to look wonderful in about three weeks because that’s how long her waiting list is.  I can’t wait!!  I am so excited.  Can you tell?

I am going to sew now and hopefully calm down a little or my husband is going to think I am nuts!  I haven’t been this excited about a fairy since I lost my first tooth…
